Data Release 38

This is Data Release 38, released on October 15th, 2026. To use the (automatically-updating) dynamic version, you can use ^38. To use the fixed (unchanging) version, you can use 38. See more information about our data versioning scheme at the reference page.

Simplified data versions
We have simplified how we talk about and accept data versions based on user feedback. The 38.38 version format still works and is equivalent to the new fixed version format 38.

New Data

  • IEA 2026: Electricity production mix, supplier mix (including trade adjustments), transmission & distribution (T&D) losses and well-to-tank data for both OECD and non-OECD countries. Coverage applicable to years 2018-2025, with 2025 being provisional data. The 2025 emission factors carry the new provisional data quality flag: they are based on preliminary data and may be revised in a later edition of the source. Provisional factors are excluded by default, so endpoints use the most recent final year instead. To use them, add provisional to allowed_data_quality_flags.
  • IEA CBAM:
    • Country-level electricity production mix emission factors from IEA, averaged over 2019-2023, for calculating indirect embedded emissions from electricity consumed in the production of CBAM goods.
    • Country-level emission factors for electricity imported into the EU as a CBAM good, averaged over 2019-2023, for calculating its direct embedded emissions.
  • sustamize: Country-level emission factors for standard parts from the Standard Parts Database - Premium v3.3.0.
  • AusLCI v1.48: Emission factors for Australian products and services across sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, waste management, and energy. Emission factors include total CO2e emissions, with additional breakdowns for biogenic and fossil emissions and land-use change.
  • Precoplat: A cradle-to-gate PCF for a printed circuit board, including totals for the raw materials and manufacturing stages, and emission factors for laminate and galvanization.
  • UBA Austria, CO2 Emissiefactoren Netherlands, and CO2 Emissiefactoren Belgium: Added calculated use-phase and thermal transmission and distribution (T&D) loss emission factors for district heating, using the loss percentages reported by each source to separate these components from the original emission factors, which already include T&D losses.

Data Changed

  • IEA 2026: Updated historic electricity production mix, supplier mix (including trade adjustments), transmission & distribution (T&D) losses and well-to-tank data for both OECD and non-OECD countries for years 2018-2024.
  • ecoinvent: Populated the LCA boundary for all supported ecoinvent versions (v3.8, v3.10, v3.11, and v3.12), to clarify their coverage and use case: The LCA boundaries are now processing, cradle_to_gate, or cradle_to_consumer or source_specific where it is unclear.
  • AusLCI v1.42:
    • Populated the LCA boundary for all activities.
    • Corrected scope application and refined categorization for selected activities to better reflect their intended use.
  • UBA Austria, CO2 Emissiefactoren Netherlands, and CO2 Emissiefactoren Belgium: Updated the LCA boundary and description to reflect that published district heating factors include thermal transmission and distribution losses.
  • BEIS/DEFRA: Added missing biogenic emission indicators for diesel and motor gasoline emission factors expressed in energy units.
  • DISER: Corrected the Australian subregion code from AU-NWSI to AU-NWIS for the North Western Interconnected System.
  • ADEME:
    • Corrected categorization for selected electronics and electrical equipment emission factors to better reflect the activities they represent.
    • Updated the lca boundary to gate-to-gate for emission factors explicitly describing a gate-to-gate process.
    • Corrected the scope for land use emission factors to scope 1, as these factors do not include Outside of Scopes emissions.
  • UNFCCC / Turkish Statistical Institute:
    • Corrected categorization for land use change emission factors to better reflect the activities they represent.
    • Corrected the scope for land use emission factors to scope 1, as these factors do not include Outside of Scopes emissions.

Data Removed

  • CO2 Emissiefactoren Netherlands and Belgium: Removed refrigerant emission factors for R-600a / HC-600a (isobutane) and R-600 / HC-600 (butane) because the previously assigned AR6 values, by the sources, are not reported by the IPCC.
