Data Release 32

This is Data Release 32, released on March 9th, 2026. To use the (automatically-updating) dynamic version, you can use ^32. To use the fixed (unchanging) version, you can use 32. See more information about our data versioning scheme at the reference page.

Simplified data versions
We have simplified how we talk about and accept data versions based on user feedback. The 32.32 version format still works and is equivalent to the new fixed version format 32.

New Data

  • OpenIO v2.11: Spend-based emission factors for Canada for 2021 and 2022.
  • Government of Canada: Fuel and electricity emission factors for 2023, 2024, and 2025.
  • MITECO: Fuel, electricity and road transport emission factors for Spain for 2023 and 2024.
  • UBA: Business travel and freight transport emission factors for Germany for 2024 along with equipment emission factors for 2016 and 2018.
  • Green-e: Electricity residual mix data covering the US eGRID subregions, applicable for 2023.
  • SEMARNAT: Electricity generation emission factor for Mexico for 2024.
  • MfE: Transport and residential fuel emission factors for New Zealand for 2024.
  • EEI: Two new electricity supplier specific emission factors for US for 2023 and 2024.

Data Changed

  • OpenIO: Updated spend-based emission factors for Canada for 2019 and 2020 based on the latest available version v2.11.
  • UBA: Deleted the CO2e values for biogas and biomethane emission factors for the upstream and total LCA activities from the dataset “Liste mit Emissionsfaktoren für die Treibhausgasbilanzierung von Organisationen V2.0”, as they include avoided methane emission credits, which are not permitted under the GHG Protocol. The component gases (CO2, CH4, N2O) are correct.
  • Green-e: Updated emission factors from the 2024 dataset, as it has been revised by the source. Dataset names were also updated to reflect the release year.
  • Updated the peat combustion activity, as the emission factors were previously treated as biogenic but should be classified as fossil. Descriptions and LCA activity fields have been updated accordingly.
  • DEFRA/BEIS: Added an explanatory note to the descriptions of well-to-tank van emission factors. The note clarifies that BEIS applies the same emission factors for both business travel and freight use of vans.
  • EEI: Updated emission factor values for 2023 and 2024 to higher precision.
  • Removed “(net CV)” and “(gross CV)” from activity names and updated the corresponding activity IDs for non-energy units.
  • sustamize: Corrected the dataset name for packaging emission factors to “Sustamize Logistics Database - Packaging - V3.2.0”.
  • ecoinvent: Updated emission factors for Namibia based on v3.12.
  • Normalized all activity IDs for the fuel bioethanol.

Data Removed

  • Government of Canada: Emission factors from the 2023 release with the activity ID fuel-type_natural_gas-fuel_use_electric_utilities were removed because they duplicated those in the 2025 release with the activity ID fuel-type_natural_gas-fuel_use_electricity_generation. Please use the latest (2025) release, which also includes historic data.
  • Removed peat combustion biogenic CO2 emission factors. The CO2 value previously treated as biogenic is now combined with the remaining constituent gases (CH4, N2O).
