Simplified data versions
We have simplified how we talk about and accept data versions based on user feedback. The
27.27
version format still works and is equivalent to the new fixed version format 27
.New Data
- IEA 2025: Electricity production mix and supplier mix (including trade adjustments), plus transmission & distribution (T&D) losses for multiple countries worldwide. Coverage applicable to years 2018–2024, with 2024 being provisional data.
- Open CEDA: Spend-based factors (via Watershed) for several activities and sectors across multiple countries.
- DISER/DCCEEW (NGA) 2025: Scope 3 well-to-tank (WTT) electricity and fuel emission factors, plus transmission & distribution (T&D) losses, at province level in Australia.
Data Changed
- IEA: In the 2024 version, regions with no trade adjustment were previously (and mistakenly) counted under supplier mix. In the 2025 version, which is the latest version currently released, these are correctly recorded as production mix.
- DISER/DCCEEW (NGA): Corrected
fuel_use
part on activity IDs tostationary
where applicable based on source documentation. - EPA spend-based & OpenIO: Normalized names to align with Open CEDA for the same activities.
- DEFRA/BEIS 2023 & 2024: According to source documentation, the CO2e emission factors values for specific activities (bioenergy, hotel stays, material use) should be under AR4, instead of AR5.
- EEA: The 2025 dataset includes updates applicable to 2023, so we updated the 2024 release to reflect those updates.
- WRAP v2.0: Some activities for historic years from v1.2 have been updated based on v2.0.
- MfE: The 2025 electricity report includes historic values, so 2024 electricity data have been updated based on the latest report.
- UBA 2025: The dataset “Entwicklung der spezifischen Treibhausgas-Emissionen des deutschen Strommix in den Jahren 1990 - 2024” includes historic values. Electricity data from the previous report in 2024 have been updated based on the latest report.
- OpenIO & EXIOBASE: Updated scope values to better reflect where each factor should be applied.
- NEA: Updated the source link (previous link was outdated).
- DEFRA/BEIS: Renamed and updated activity IDs for waste combustion to indicate energy recovery.
- EPA activity-based: Corrected formatting for several waste activity IDs from the datasets 2024 & 2025 GHG Emission Factors Hub.
- GLEC: Fixed a few incorrect descriptions for refrigerant gases.
Data Removed
- IEA: We no longer assume zero for missing T&D CO2 values. Some countries will therefore have no T&D losses data in the new version.
- DEFRA/BEIS: To avoid confusion for Refrigerant gases, we now keep only 2022 (AR4) and 2025 (AR5). For the displayed “year,” we use the IPCC report publication year (2007 for AR4, 2014 for AR5). Both Kyoto and non-Kyoto gases are included. 2021, 2023, and 2024 were removed as they were duplicates or superseded by other factors.
- EPA: Following the same approach as DEFRA/BEIS, we keep only 2023 (AR4) and 2025 (AR5); all other years were removed as duplicates/superseded.
- EEA: Removed the 2024 release (covering 2023) because it is superseded by the 2025 updates now applied.
- WRAP v2.0: For some activities in historic years, v2.0 revised v1.2 values. We applied the v2.0 revisions and removed the separate v1.2 entries.
- MfE: Removed the separate 2024 electricity dataset, because the 2025 report includes historical electricity updates, which are now incorporated.
- UBA: Removed the separate 2024 electricity data from “Entwicklung der spezifischen Treibhausgas-Emissionen des deutschen Strommix in den Jahren 1990–2023,” because the 2025 release includes historical electricity updates, which are now applied. *UBA**: We removed the separate 2024 electricity data, that was part of the dataset “Entwicklung der spezifischen Treibhausgas-Emissionen des deutschen Strommix in den Jahren 1990 - 2023” as the latest one released in 2025, includes historical updates for electricity data.
