What is the difference between product- and industry-level emission factors?

Product-specific emission factors are better suited for measuring emissions from purchased goods and services, while industry-specific factors are better for measuring the impacts of investment in industries, or for generic purchases from an industry.

Does Climatiq cover both product- and industry-level factors?

Yes, an EXIOBASE premium license from Climatiq includes both product- and industry-level factors.

Are the factors published based on basic or purchaser price? What is the difference?

The basic price is the amount received by the producer of a good or service, without taxes such as VAT, and excludes transport and trade margins. The purchaser price is the final amount paid by the buyer. EXIOBASE factors use basic prices.

What versions of EXIOBASE does Climatiq cover?

Climatiq covers free versions of EXIOBASE up to version 3.8, and premium versions from 3.10 upwards.

What regions does EXIOBASE cover?

EXIOBASE includes 44 explicitly modelled countries (EU 27, plus 17 major economies) with the remaining countries covered by larger regions (Europe, Asia, Africa, Americas, and Middle East).

What is scope breakdown? Does Climatiq cover this?

Each EXIOBASE emission factor provides insights into the direct (scope 1), indirect (scope 2), and upstream (scope 3) emissions for a given product or industry. This will soon be available through Climatiq.

Does Climatiq publish a constituent gas breakdown?

Breakdown of GHG gases are available for each EXIOBASE emission factor: Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH₄), Nitrous oxide (N₂O), and other greenhouse gases, and will soon be available through Climatiq.

Do I have to manually update the data when there’s a new release?

No, Climatiq will add new and updated factors whenever they’re released by EXIOBASE as part of your subscription.

Is any EXIOBASE data available for free?

No, EXIOBASE data is only available on a subscription basis.

I’m working on my company’s internal reporting, and we won’t make money from my work, does this count as commercial use?

Yes, carbon accounting within a business is still classified as commercial use and requires the correct licence.

Can I download the emission factors in a spreadsheet or CSV?

EXIOBASE data is only available through Data Explorer, Climatiq for Excel, or API access.

Can I access EXIOBASE as part of a trial?

EXIOBASE requires a paid license and is not available as part of a trial period.
