About ecoinvent
ecoinvent is a Swiss not-for-profit association that provides a Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) database that supports various types of sustainability assessments. This data enables users to gain a deeper understanding of the environmental impacts of their products and services. ecoinvent provides multiple climate impact indicators. We use "IPCC 2007 (superseded), climate change, global warming potential (GWP100)" for AR4 CO2e emisison factor values and "IPCC 2013, climate change, global warming potential (GWP100)" for AR5 values.

| Methodology description | Climatiq provides the impact category / indicator “climate change: total (excl. biogenic CO2) - GWP100”. See https://support.ecoinvent.org/guidance-on-ipcc-methods. The system model is "Allocation cut-off by Classification". See https://support.ecoinvent.org/system-models#Allocation_classification. This is the dataset recommended for use by ecoinvent. Note that “excl. biogenic CO2” suffix is to differentiate it from another dataset “incl. biogenic CO2” that is intended only for specialist use. It does not mean that biogenic CO2 emissions are ignored completely; the relevant sources are covered within the “direct land use change” indicator. The emission factor "name" in the Climatiq database is derived from the source Activity Name and Reference Product Name. It is important to understand the importance of the reference product in ecoinvent as emissions are expressed in terms of units of the reference product. For example: Succinic acid (adipic acid production) - the emission factor is for the production of the quantity of Succinic acid (name) required to produce unit (e.g. 1kg) of adipic acid (reference product). The quantity required is not given by the source meaning that these "production" emission factors are difficult to use without understanding the underlying processes. We therefore recommend using the "market for" emission factors with "(market for)" in the names and "market_for_" in the activity_id e.g. "Succinic acid (market for)". Market-for emission factors are for the production of one unit (e.g. 1 kg) of the activity. These factors include all upstream emissions, transportation to the "consumer" and losses. See https://support.ecoinvent.org/market-activities . |
| Limitation / key issues to note | We recommend using only "market for" emission factors as these include all upstream emissions for the production of one unit of the activity. Note that these also include transportation to the "consumer" so you may be double-counting if you add inward freight to your calculations. |

The Australian National Life Cycle Inventory Database (AusLCI) developed by the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS) provides environmental data on Australian products and services across their full life cycle.
- Go to EXIOBASE
EXIOBASE
EXIOBASE is a global, detailed Multi-Regional Environmentally Extended Supply-Use Table (MR-SUT) and Input-Output Table (MR-IOT). It was developed by harmonising and detailing supply-use tables for a large number of countries, estimating emissions and resource extractions by industry. Subsequently, the country supply-use tables were linked via trade creating an MR-SUT and producing MR-IOTs from this. The MR-IOT can be used for the analysis of the environmental impacts associated with the final consumption of product groups. The EXIOBASE emission factors use basic prices. The basic price represents the initial cost set by a producer for a product or service, without additional fees like taxes or delivery costs (referred to as tax and transport margins). The values in the Climatiq Database might not be exactly the same as the ones you find on the EXIOBASE download page due to the prices used.

AIB
The Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) is a European organisation that manages and promotes the use of energy attribute certificates to track the production and consumption of renewable energy in Europe. The AIB produces the European Residual Mix Report which includes data on the mix of fuels used to generate electricity in each European country, as well as the associated greenhouse gas emissions.
