Emission factor summary

The activity generating the emissions is market for chlorine, for reuse in titanium tetrachloride production. The reference product is chlorine, for reuse in titanium tetrachloride production. This product represents chlorine produced by the electrolysis of magnesium chloride according to the following reaction: MgCl2 -> Mg + Cl2. The magnesium chloride is obtained during the production of titanium sponge using the Kroll process, in the reduction and distillation step, described by the following reaction: TiCl4 + 2Mg -> Ti + 2MgCl2. Through the electrolysis of magnesium chloride, part of the Mg and Cl is recovered and then reused in the Kroll process. The chlorine is used as input to the chlorination and refining step, which produces titanium tetrachloride according to the following reaction: 2TiO2 + 4Cl2 + 3C -> 2TiCl4 + 2CO + CO2. This product should not be used in any other context. The reference product amount is 1. The cut-off classification is allocatable product. The activity type is ordinary market activity.
