Zinc (primary production from concentrate)

The activity generating the emissions is primary zinc production from concentrate. The Reference Product is zinc. Zinc is a metal. It is a slightly brittle, with a silvery-greyish appearance and it is a transition metal. It is the direct product from zinc concentrate through a hydrometallurgical process and a by-product of gold mine operation and refining. It is in a form of ingots and shot. It can be used in the following applications and/or processes: coating in steel work/die cast and for electroplating, to galvanise other metals, such as iron, to prevent rusting, to produce die-castings, which are important in the automobile, electrical and hardware industries, in alloys such as brass, nickel silver and aluminium solder.
