Mastic asphalt (production)

The activity generating the emissions is mastic asphalt production. The reference product is mastic asphalt. The product "mastic asphalt" represents a mixture of bitumen and aggregates. The raw materials per kg ready mix product are mixed in following ratio: Limestone powder (0.260 kg), sand (0.66 kg), bitumen (0.060 kg) and natural bitumen (0.020 kg). Mastic asphalt is defined by the Mastic Asphalt Council1 as follows: Mastic asphalt is a type of asphalt composed of graded mineral matter and asphaltic cement in such proportions as to form a cohesive, impermeable mass. It is solid or semi-solid under normal temperature conditions, but sufficiently fluid when brought to a suitable temperature to be spread by means of a hand float or by mechanical means without compaction. Mastic asphalt is used as protection for a wide range of construction applications. It offers total water impermeability for roofing and tanking, acts as a working surface and damp-proof membrane in flooring and is ideal for paving, offering a durable wearing surface.
