Cobalt (primary zinc production from concentrate)

The activity generating the emissions is primary zinc production from concentrate. The Reference Product is cobalt. Cobalt is a metal. It is ferromagnetic, with hard lustrous bluish gray appearance and it is a transition metal. It is the direct product from mining and beneficiation and a by-product from primary zinc production from concentrate. It can be used in the following applications and/or processes: alloys production, magnets and magnetic recording media, as catalysts for petroleum and chemical industries, as drying agents for paints and inks. Cobalt blue is an important part of artists palette and is used by craft workers in porcelain, pottery, stained glass, tiles and enamel jewellery. The radioactive isotopes, cobalt-60, is used in medical treatment and also to irradiate food, in order to preserve the food and protect the consumer. The Reference Product amount is 1.
