| Methodology description | Circular Ecology compiles data from various sources. Some emission factors are averages, some come from a single LCA or sector average EPD. Different sources follow different standards but most data (89%) come from EN15804 EPDs. 4% of data align with ISO 14067 and the remainder is either ISO 14044 or no standard method. The methodologies applied vary by material; see the individual emission factor descriptions for the methodology used. There are up to three lca activities for each material: cradle_to_gate: Modules A1 to A3 excluding biogenic carbon dioxide uptake and storage in the material carbon_storage: biogenic carbon dioxide uptake and storage in the material carbon_storage-cradle_to_gate: Modules A1 to A3 including biogenic carbon dioxide uptake and storage in the material. The methodology for each material type is available in the database download file from the source page. GEMIS, or the Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems, is a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) software tool developed by IINAS, the Institute for Integrated Environmental Assessments. The tool is designed to analyse and model the environmental impacts of various technologies, products, and services. GEMIS covers a wide range of sectors, including energy, transport, materials, and agriculture, among others, providing reliable and consistent emission factors.
