The reduction and distillation step consists of the following reaction: TiCl4 + 2Mg -> Ti + 2MgCl2. The magnesium chloride produced from this reaction is sent to an electrolysis process, which recovers part of the magnesium and chlorine. This product should not be used in any other context.
