Emission factor summary

Process description: The steam cracking of naphtha produces the main product ethylene. For this purpose, the process consumes naphtha. Utilities consumed comprise electricity, cooling water, inert gas, and process water. Additionally, the process produces steam and thermal energy as utility by-products. The multifunctionality problem for utility by-products is solved by system expansion via the avoided burden approach. Dataset type is technology-specific (core layer). Allocation type is allocation according to: Recommendation on Steam Cracker alocation, PlasticsEurope, September 2017. In case of energy co-production, allocation via avoided burden is applied for the co-produced energy. CAS RN is 74-85-1. All datasets are based on the attributional LCA approach and the methodology defined in the cm.chemicals methodology document.
