| Methodology description | Carbon Minds V2.03 provides climate change data following three methodologies:
Climatiq uses data from two of these methodologies. Carbon Minds (based on IPCC 2021 excl. biogenic) is used for the standard AR6 total excluding biogenic CO2, fossil emissions, direct land-use change emissions and removals, and biogenic CH4 emissions. This methodology excludes biogenic CO2 flows from the characterization of climate change impacts. Carbon Minds ISO 14067 with biogenic CO2 correction (based on IPCC 2021 incl. biogenic) is used for the -1/+1 fields. This methodology accounts for biogenic emissions and removals and applies a biogenic CO2 correction to align the product's total climate impact with its biogenic carbon content. Biogenic emissions are equal to biogenic methane plus the release of CO2 stored in the product. Biogenic CO2 storage in the product is equal to the biogenic carbon content (see below) multiplied by 44/12. For the -1/+1 methodology, Climatiq provides the total climate change impact as well as separate fossil, biogenic, and land-use change components. The biogenic component accounts for biogenic CO2 and CH4 emissions, biogenic CO2 removals, and the biogenic CO2 correction. Climatiq additionally separates this component into biogenic emissions and removals for use in the PCF endpoint. The source field For FLAG reporting, Climatiq sets FLAG emissions equal to direct land-use change emissions and land-management emissions to zero. Carbon Minds excludes land-management-related emissions and removals because typical land-management practices are outside the system boundary of the assessed chemical product systems. Relevant soil organic carbon changes associated with land transformation are included within direct land-use change. All datasets are based on the attributional LCA approach and the methodology defined in the cm.chemicals methodology document. |
