Emission factor summary

Emissions generated by the activity within the product supply chain as described in ecoinvent v3.8. Aluminium chloride can be produced by the reaction of aluminium with chlorine gas and of aluminium or aluminium hydrozide with hydrochloric acid (Lee et al. 2011 and Helmboldt et al. 2007). This product is used to derive aluminium powder which is used in the fabrication of solar cells and electromagnetic fields (Lee et al. 2011). Aluminium chloride is also “[…] widely applied as acid catalyst, isomerization of hydrocarbon, catalyst of aldehyde synthesis, and catalyst of cation polymerization. In case of an anhydride, it is also used for cracking of oil, and catalyst of Friedel-Crafts reaction in an organic synthesis” (Lee et al. 2011, pp. 40). The final product has usually a shading of yellow and gray caused by residues of the reactants. The pure product would instead have a white colour (Helmboldt 2007). Wiley-VCH, Weinheim. The cut-off classification is allocatable product. The activity type is ordinary transforming activity. The reference product amount is 1.
