Data Transformation
The source reports emissions in tCO2e/TJ, tCO2e/t, gCO2e/m2, and gCO2e/kg, which have been converted to kgCO2e/GJ, kgCO2e/kg, kgCO2e/m2, and kgCO2e/kg, respectively, to ensure consistency. The source reports emissions in tC/TJ and tCO2-C/t, which have been converted to kgCO2/GJ and kgCO2/kg, respectively, to ensure consistency, applying molecular weight ratios (C converted to CO2 using 44/12) The source reports emissions in kgN2O-N/kg N and kgN2O-N/ha, which have been converted to kgN2O/kg N and kgN2O/ha, respectively, to ensure consistency, applying molecular weight ratios (N2O-N converted to N2O using 44/28)

Methodology description

Climatiq has extracted country-specific emission factors from the 2023 data tables within the Common Reporting Tables (CRT) published alongside the 2025 NID. These cover a broad range of activity categories, including stationary and mobile fuel combustion (fossil and biomass), fugitive emissions from coal mining and oil and gas operations, industrial processes and product use (IPPU), agriculture (enteric fermentation, manure management, rice cultivation, agricultural soils, and field burning), land use change, and waste (solid waste disposal, biological treatment, open burning, and wastewater treatment). Where source values were reported in alternative units — such as t C/TJ, kg N₂O-N/kg N, or t CO₂-C/t — these have been converted to standard CO₂e emission factors using the appropriate stoichiometric conversion factors (44/12 for carbon to CO₂; 44/28 for N₂O-N to N₂O). Biogenic CO₂ emission factors for biomass combustion are provided separately and should be reported as biogenic or outside of scopes in line with GHG Protocol guidance.
