Emission factor summary

Process description: The electrolysis of sodium chloride produces the main product sodium chlorate. For this purpose, the process consumes hydrogen, sodium carbonate, caustic soda (50%), hydrochloric acid, calcium oxide, ferric chloride, sodium chloride, and sodium dichromate. Utilities consumed comprise cooling water, steam, electricity, process water, unspecific inorganic chemical, cement, and disposal of cement. Dataset type is technology-specific (extension layer). Allocation type is no allocation needed in this unit process. In case of energy co-production, allocation via avoided burden is applied for the co-produced energy. CAS RN is 7775-09-9. All datasets are based on the attributional LCA approach and the methodology defined in the cm.chemicals methodology document.
