Emissions generated by the activity within the product supply chain as described in ecoinvent v3.8. Dusts that are produced during steelmaking in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) after separation from flue gases. BOF gas dusts comprise, in principle, iron and other metal oxides, but composition varies widely based on technology level, charge composition, and the types and quantities of additives that are used. BOF gas dust may be sent for internal or external recovery or disposal. The cut-off classification is Waste. The activity type is market activity. The reference product amount is -1.

Basic oxygen furnace dust (market for basic oxygen furnace dust)

The activity generating the emissions is market for basic oxygen furnace dust. The Reference Product is basic oxygen furnace dust. Basic oxygen furnace dust is a solid waste under the category of industrial wastes. It is primarily generated in steelmaking in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) after separation from flue gases. basic oxygen furnace dust contain the following fractions: 100% basic oxygen furnace dust. By the database default (and per unit of reference product),basic oxygen furnace dust has 0.1% water on wet mass basis (99.9% dry matter) and Carbon present is of only fossil origin (1.81% on a dry matter basis). It has a lower heating value of 0 MJ/kg . This kind of by-product (recyclable or waste) is generated in a specific treatment process, and as such is not intended to be used as for modelling waste outputs from other activities. In the ecoinvent database, treatment option/s for this by-product include: deposition (residual material landfill). Based on the aforementioned treatments, this by-product receives, it is a hazardous waste. In addition, this by-product is used in the following processes: basic oxygen furnace dust to market for basic oxygen furnace dust, for recovery. This by-product can be modelled on two levels: treatment activity and market activity. The former one refers to the specific technology treating the by-product while the latter level represents a mix of treatments. Users are encouraged to inspect the modelling assumptions of the treatment activities and when selecting the market to additionally inspect the treatment mix. Collection and transportation of this by-product is accounted in the respective market activity, users are advised to inspect and modify the average transportation distances for a case specific modelling. The Reference Product amount is -1. The cut-off classification is Waste. The activity type is market activity.
